Daily calorie counting and keeping track of activity in apps is a strategy that is difficult to live by over time. Nor are we created to go hungry all the time. Hunger awakens the hunter instinct in us which tells us to go out and find food. We are thus fighting against our own biology when we only focus on what we eat and how much we have exercised. The strategy gives us ups and downs where we alternate between feeling happy and a total lack of control over our own situation. This leads us into a vicious circle and on a roller coaster ride that never ends. It is tiresome!
